That’s why every home needs to have a water purifier to clean the impurities present in the water. Having said that, there are so many water purifiers on the market, but choosing the right one can be confusing for most of us. What is a water purifier and what does a water purifier do?

For those who don’t know what a water purifier is, it’s a device that eliminates physical contaminants (such as sand and suspended particles), chemical contaminants (such as agricultural chemicals, chlorine by-products, and metals), biological contaminants (such as bacteria, viruses, protozoa, E. coli, and Legionella pneumophilia), and radiological chemicals.

A water purifier also helps remove the excess minerals such as calcium and magnesium that make your water hard.

Most people are confused what is the difference between a water filter and a water purifier. Both water filters and purifiers help remove physical and chemical contaminants. However, water purifiers go further and remove contaminants such as biological contaminants and minerals.

Typically, a purifier would include multiple stages of filters intended to remove different impurities from your water. The stages of filters include sediment filters, carbon filters, reverse osmosis filters, UV purifiers, and remineralization filters.

The water purification process is based on impurities present in water, and each source of water has different contaminants that are harmful to our bodies. Although every government insists their water is well treated and safe for human consumption, which is very true, mostly before this water gets to our doorsteps, it is contaminated either by the pipes, where we store that water, or the container used to draw the water.

Reverse osmosis (RO) membrane: In this technology, water is pumped under high pressure and forced through a permeable membrane to remove contaminants present in the water. It is used to purify salty water or hard water.

Ultra-violet (UV): This technology uses ultraviolet radiation, which is used to kill viruses, bacteria, and germs in the water. This method requires electricity to operate.

Ultra-filtration (UF): This technology uses microfiber threads to purify salty water or hard water. You do not need power for filtering.

Although most governments have tried to supply their people with safe piped water, a large percentage still lack access to clean piped water, and they rely on other water sources like the river.
